Successful organizational strategic plans require clear, measurable, purpose-driven goals and full team buy-in. That way, individuals can be motivated to embrace their role in reaching larger strategic goals that can make an organization thrive.
WHAT MAKES US BE SO EFFECTIVE
The main reason we are so effective in helping organizations grow is our focus on getting to know your organization inside and out.
Our first task is to have our team learn all about your goals, challenges, infrastructure, processes, and current funding as we work to develop recommendations that will leverage your organization’s ability to build capacity and promote its transformation.
Our second task is to partner with your organization to help develop a strategic plan for the next five-years.
Ultimately, our goal is to take those fundraising and grant writing projects that could benefit from our expertise completely off your plate.
Our services will help catalyze the growth and development of your organization.
WHAT WE DO
What Is Transformational Change?
Transformational change is a result of either organizational transformation or the implementation or installation of a program, project, or initiative that impacts the structure and culture of the organization. For instance, in some places, an educational assessment, implemented properly, requires changes in the structure (rules, roles, and relationships) and culture (beliefs, values, traditions) of the school and/or district.
How do we go about capacity building to sustain change?
Consider these three questions to get the process started:
How is the core business of your school district defined?
Is there a common understanding of the challenges that confront the school and/or district?
Is there a vision of the future, a vision that is sufficiently compelling to earn the attention of those whose support is needed? Are all stakeholders engaged with your organization's vision and mission?
IS YOUR ORGANIZATION READY TO DEVELOP A FRAMEWORK FOR TRANSFORMATIONAL CHANGE?
AT NEW HORIZONS WE ARE READY TO HELP YOUR ORGANIZATION START-UP WITH THE PROCESS.
ARE YOU?
The following framework is useful for those who are leading the change effort. Consider these as capacity indicators of the organization — questions leaders should consider prior to implementing or installing a new initiative, project, or program.
- Purpose and values: Are the beliefs and assumptions that underlie the initiative consistent with those of the organization?
- Sense of direction: Do we have valid reasons to believe the initiative will support and enhance the goals of the organization?
- Leadership commitment: It is likely the initiative will earn commitment and support from key organizational leaders?
- Assessment mechanisms: Do we have both traditional measures and a commitment to developing new ones to determine the progress and success of the initiative?
- Infrastructure for taking action: Are the existing culture and structure of the organization supportive of the aims and means of the initiative?
- Resource allocation: Will those closest to the work required have access to and flexible use of the resources needed for successful implementation?
Why should organizational transformation be a priority?
Organizational transformation is critical for a number of reasons.
It’s inextricably tied to business outcomes and thus, to organizational success.
As every business goes through cycles of growth and change, this is an opportunity to analyze how the organization is doing and prepare a strategic plan for its future.
Performance improvement
How well is your organization performing with outdated hierarchies and processes? This is often the area of business that needs transformation the most so that the company can live up to its potential.
Organizational culture
Is your school culture an accurate reflection of the experience that your employees, customers, vendors, parents, students and the community have? If not, what can you do to transform your culture and align it with your core organizational values?
A cultural transformation can also help solve problem areas like high employee turnover, low engagement, and dwindling quality of work — areas that human resources can identify through tracking relevant metrics.
Market impact
An organization that wants to thrive even in uncertain times needs to focus on making a transformative impact on the market it serves. This can include setting the bar high in terms of how the organization embraces its social responsibility and develops employees to take on a better future.
Competitive advantage
Every organization can look at transformation as contributing towards its competitive advantage. Organizations with strong brands, effective employee management, and ethical ways of doing things will stand out in their community. Regular evaluations can provide insight into what needs to change and when.
Organizational change management
How is change managed in your organization? How are you currently helping your staff/employees overcome their resistance to change as you change the organizational structure to a new organizational model.
